Visa Guidelines – Australia
For students studying in Australia for a semester up to one academic year
Important Notes
- Do not apply for a visa until you have received your Confirmation of Enrollment (COE) from your host university.
- Your eCoE code is the 8-digit number in the top-right corner of page 1 of your eCoE document. You will need this for your application.
- Visa type: Student Visa Subclass 500
- Format: Electronic (e-Visa)
- Cost: AUD 2,000 (~$1,300 USD), payable by credit card
- Work rights: Limited hours/week of paid employment permitted during the semester
Before You Apply
- Review the Subclass 500 Student Visa webpage and the Genuine Student (GS) requirement page.
- Gather your documents using the Document Checklist Tool. Enter your country of passport and education provider for an accurate list. Items may include:
- COE copy
- OSHC proof
- Statement of Genuine Temporary Entrant requirement
- Academic transcripts
- ID (birth certificate or driver’s license)
- CV/resume (employment history)
- Migration Agent Forms 956/956A (if applicable)
How to Apply
- Create or log in to your ImmiAccount.
- Complete the online application form.
- Attach all required documents.
- Pay the visa application charge.
- Submit your application.

After You Apply
- You will receive a confirmation email with your Transaction Reference Number. Keep this handy.
- Monitor your email (and spam folder) for updates from the Department of Home Affairs.
- You can also check your application status in your ImmiAccount.
- No passport mailing is required.
