Visa Guidelines - France
The guidelines below apply to students studying in France for a period of a semester up to one academic year. Contact your Education Abroad Regional Advisor if you have any questions.

Is a Visa Required for US Citizens?
  • Yes! US Passport Holders are required to apply for a visa in order to enter France
  • If you are not a US passport holder, you can click here to see if you need a visa to enter France based on your nationality
  • Total approximate cost: $350
Visa Application Process
Part I)
  1. Complete your Campus France USA application. Read the process overview and follow these instructions to complete it. 
    1. Create an Etudes En France Account. Refer to Scenario 2 in the instructions. Your alias is study-abroad/exchange/dual-degree student.
    2. Submit online application 
    3. Submit the required paper work and pay the Regular Service $190 fee online through www.docboxcfusa.org/
      • Scanned copy of Acceptance Letter (provided by EA)
      • Payment Receipt (provided by Campus France)
  2. Campus France sends you a confirmation email, which means you are ready to apply to VFS.Global for your Long Stay Visa!
Part II)
  1. Using the France- Visas Visa Wizard, assemble your Long Stay Visa (>90 days) application materials
    • Provide the following answers to generate the required list of documents
      • Page 1
        • Place of submission of application: United States of America
        • Visa Type: Long Stay Visa (>90 days)
        • Main destination of stay: France
        • Issuing authority of the travel document: country of your nationality (e.g. United States of America)
        • Travel document: Ordinary passport
      • Page 2
        • Your plans: Student
        • Main purpose of stay: Student
  2. Pay the visa fee, complete the on-line visa application, print and compile
  3. Schedule an appointment at the VFS Visa Application Centre for France (appointments must be made within 90 days of your program start date).
    1. NOTE: Students who participate in the Campus France Group Mailing can schedule their visa appointment immediately. Please allow one to two weeks processing time for Campus France to provide your confirmation email.
Part III)
  1. Submit your application at the VFS Visa Application Centre for France for processing
    • Bring your complete visa application
    • Submit your biometrics
    • Get your passport photos processed (arrive early)
  2. Education Abroad recommends that you use the $35 VFS courier service in order to have your visa and passport mailed back to you
  3. Processing time takes between 3 and 4 weeks
