Visa Guidelines - France

The guidelines below apply to students studying in France for a period of a semester up to one academic year. Contact your Global Learning Advisor if you have any questions.

 

Is a Visa Required for US Citizens?

  • Yes! US Passport Holders are required to apply for a visa in order to enter France
  • If you are not a US passport holder, you can click here to see if you need a visa to enter France based on your nationality
  • Total approximate cost: $600

Application Process

The application process has many steps and can take up to 10 weeks so do not delay in getting started.

 

Part I: Create and Submit "Etude en France" Account with Campus France

  1. Complete online application. Refer to the Etudes en France Application Guide and see the alias study abroad/dual-degree student 
    1. Create and complete an online application. 
    2. Submit the required document scans
      • passport; official 
      • acceptance letter; statement of motivation; headshot (50kb max)
    3. Pay the Regular Service $270 fee online through DocBoxCFUSA - 3 week processing time
      • Save your Payment Receipt (provided by Campus France)
      • Expedited Review is available for $460- 3 days processing time
  2. Campus France sends you a confirmation email when your application has been processed 
    1. Print this confirmation and bring it to your visa appointment

Part II: Apply for a Student Long-Stay Student Visa 

  1. Complete the Long-Stay Visa application. Refer to the Student Visa Guidelines ​
    • Compile the required application documentation + passport 
  2. Schedule an appointment at a TLS center 
    • First create a TLS account
    • Book your appointment - $230 TLS service fee when booking
    • Bring all documents from both steps above to your appointment - $53 Visa application fee

Part III: Submit your application in person to a TLS center

  1. At the time of your appointment, submit your application at a TLS center for processing
    • Bring your complete visa application
    • ​You will need to pay the $53 visa application fee
    • Processing time takes between 3 and 4 weeks 
  2. You have the option to return to TLS to pick up your visa or use the express courier service ($40) in order to have your visa and passport mailed back to you
