When art forms are integrated into educational spaces, learners develop cognitive and problem solving skills, demonstrate socio-emotional growth, and expand creative capacities. Through daily hands-on intensive workshops led by international experts in the arts and education, you will discover high quality methods to become a skilled facilitator and leader in the field. Coursework includes theory, practice, and access to hundreds of resources to promote your educational and professional growth. Highlights include collaborations with educators and artists from around the globe, daily entree to international experts in the field, and immersion in Irish culture at one of the leading universities in the world.
You must be in good academic and judicial standing and you must not have any registration blocks to participate in this program. The minimum GPA for this program is listed above.
This program is open to UMD and non-UMD seniors, graduate students, visiting graduate students, educators, and teaching artists.
An interview is required as part of the application process.
After you commit to the program, Education Abroad will enroll you in the following courses for a total of five (5) UMD credits:
The courses you complete during this program will count as resident credit.
There will be two online sessions in June before leaving for Ireland. During these meetings we will review the readings and get oriented for the trip.
One online session will be held in August after returning to the US. During this session you will share your project.
Modern suite in the city centre that includes private room and bath with a shared living room and kitchen. Ten minute walk to campus.

Linda Krakaur, Faculty Program Director, is an expert on inquiry-based arts integration and facilitates professional development for schools, arts organizations, and educational agencies. She earned a Master's in Drama in Education from Trinity College and a doctorate in teacher education from the University of Maryland. Dr. Krakaur has extensive experience abroad including facilitating workshops at the International Drama in Education Association conferences in Hong Kong and France. Linda is invested in developing collaborative relationships between educators and artists around the world in order to better meet the needs of 21st century learners.
Dr. Carmel O'Sullivan is a noted scholar, researcher, and practitioner in the field of drama in education. She is the director of the Summer School for Drama in Education and founded the Trinity College Arts Education Research Group and the Association for Drama in Education in Ireland. Dr. O'Sullivan's ten-year project with students with Asperger's is groundbreaking work that is shifting how the needs of learners with atypical development are prepared for education and occupation.
